“Cancel Culture” is a noun that refers to the practice of withdrawing support for (canceling) individuals, groups, companies, or other entities that have said, done or supported something considered objectionable or offensive. In 2020 Alan Dershowitz authored a book titled “Cancel Culture: The Latest Attack on Free Speech and Due Process” that tied the phenomenon to the whims of social media. “Cancel Constitution” refers to attacks on the founding principles of the United States in order to fundamentally transform the country. The goal is to redefine or reinterpret the role of government and the basic rights of citizens so they are fearful to speak freely, practice religion, assemble and petition the government, and trust equal protection under the law.
The Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights are collectively known as the Charters of Freedom. The Constitution defines the framework of the Federal Government. The Bill of Rights are the first 10 Amendments and define individual citizens’ and states’ rights in relation to national governance.
